The Plan

Three days. One group. Zero regrets.

Fly into San Francisco Thursday night. Wake up Friday to the Golden Gate, then drive through the Sierra foothills to Yosemite. Spend two nights in a Mariposa cabin with a hot tub. Hit the iconic sights at sunset, hike the Mist Trail at dawn, watch July 4th fireworks from Glacier Point, and drive back to SFO on Sunday.

⚠️ 2026 Reality Check — No Reservations Required

Yosemite eliminated entry reservations for 2026. This means crowds. Outside Online (May 2026) reports parking lots filling by 7:30 AM on weekends, 1+ hour entrance lines, and "apocalyptic" conditions on Saturdays. Our plan accounts for this: Friday evening arrival (post-peak), Saturday dawn start (before the rush).

Insider Tips That Actually Matter

Verified from Outside Online, Hike with Ryan, NPS, Reddit r/Yosemite, X/Twitter, and photography blogs. Not generic advice — real 2026 intelligence.

Start Times Beat Trail Tricks

If you want peaceful trailhead parking and quiet photos, arrive before 6:00 AM at your first stop. The 9:30 AM–3:00 PM blob is when day-trippers arrive and popular viewpoints fill in waves.

🚗

Parking Lots Fill by 7:30 AM

On weekends, Yosemite Valley parking lots reach capacity by 7:30 AM. Lines to enter can stretch 1+ hours. Arrive before 7 AM or after 7 PM to avoid the worst.

🍕

Pack Your Own Food

Restaurant lines at Curry Village are "hundreds of people" deep. Pack lunches, grab snacks at the Village Store early, or eat at a meadow. Don't plan on restaurant meals in the park.

🚲

Bring or Rent a Bike

Biking is the most thrilling way to travel around Yosemite Valley. Most of the east side has paved bike paths under redwood canopies. Rent at Curry Village — but they sell out within the first hour on weekends.

🚌

YARTS Bus = No Parking Stress

YARTS runs from Mariposa to Yosemite Valley for ~$20/person. Skip the entrance line and parking entirely. The free Yosemite shuttle runs inside the park until 10 PM.

📸

Sentinel Bridge at Sunrise

The best Half Dome reflection photo. Calm morning water creates a perfect mirror. On Southside Drive, free parking. Go before the Mist Trail for the best light.

🥾

Up Mist Trail, Down John Muir

Go up the Mist Trail to Vernal Fall, then come back via the John Muir Trail. Wider switchbacks, less crowded, better views — especially for a group of 10 descending together.

🎨

Artist Point > Tunnel View

For a quieter alternative to the famous Tunnel View overlook, head to Artist Point. Same view, 1/10th the people. A short walk from the Tunnel View parking area.

Download Offline Maps

Cell service is very patchy in Yosemite. Download offline Google Maps of the entire Yosemite area before the trip. Don't rely on cell for navigation.
