10 people · 3 days · the ultimate Independence Day adventure
Fly into San Francisco Thursday night. Wake up Friday to the Golden Gate, then drive through the Sierra foothills to Yosemite. Spend two nights in a Mariposa cabin with a hot tub. Hit the iconic sights at sunset, hike the Mist Trail at dawn, watch July 4th fireworks from Glacier Point, and drive back to SFO on Sunday.
Yosemite eliminated entry reservations for 2026. This means crowds. Outside Online (May 2026) reports parking lots filling by 7:30 AM on weekends, 1+ hour entrance lines, and "apocalyptic" conditions on Saturdays. Our plan accounts for this: Friday evening arrival (post-peak), Saturday dawn start (before the rush).
Outside Online reports: "Parking lots could reasonably be described as apocalyptic." You must be at the Valley by 7:00 AM. Lots fill by 7:30 AM on weekends. No exceptions.

If you want peaceful trailhead parking and quiet photos, arrive before 6:00 AM at your first stop. The 9:30 AM–3:00 PM blob is when day-trippers arrive and popular viewpoints fill in waves.

Source: X/Twitter reports (2026)Restaurant lines at Curry Village are "hundreds of people" deep. Pack lunches, grab snacks at the Village Store early, or eat at a meadow. Don't plan on restaurant meals in the park.
Source: Outside Online (May 2026)Biking is the most thrilling way to travel around Yosemite Valley. Most of the east side has paved bike paths under redwood canopies. Rent at Curry Village — but they sell out within the first hour on weekends.
